Abstract

The current study was conducted from November 2022 to February 2023 to determine the fish fauna and physiochemical parameters of water of the Latambar dam in the district of Karak.  Fish were collected using various sorts of nets and hooks and were preserved with 10% formalin. Classification was done through various taxonomic and systematic keys. The Physiochemical characteristics such as total dissolve solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), temperature, total solid (TS), PH, colour, odour, and flexibility of water samples obtained from various places of the Latambar dam were analyzed and observed. For this purpose, three samples (n= 3) of water collected from the different sites of the dam. These samples have been analyzed for physiochemical parameters. During the study period, seven edible fish species were identified including Labeo rohita, Cirrhinus mrigala, Cyprinus carpio, Catla catla, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, Tor tor and Oreochromis niloticus. The temperature of water at Latambar Dam was measured with a minimum temperature range of 28°C and a maximum temperature range of 31°C, with an average temperature is 29.6°C reported. Average pH of the dam water sample was 8.4, which is within the range of high quality. The average total dissolved solids (TDS) of the Latambar dam were 0.02mg/100ml. The electrical conductivity of water was 0.25s/100ml. Based on the results, Latambar dam has a rich edible fish fauna and, it can harbor greater fish quantity and species. According to the World Health Organization, the physicochemical parameters of water are within the acceptable range and are also suitable for developing fish and increasing productivity.
